27 Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. Then, whether I come and see you or only hear about you in my absence, I will know that you stand firm in the one Spirit, striving together as one for the faith of the gospel 28 without being frightened in any way by those who oppose you. This is a sign to them that they will be destroyed, but that you will be saved—and that by God. 29 For it has been granted to you on behalf of Christ not only to believe in him, but also to suffer for him, 30 since you are going through the same struggle you saw I had, and now hear that I still have.
Life Worthy of the Gospel
Continuing what Paul said in yesterday’s text about being ready, he goes on to speak about what it is important for us to do while still living each day. It is a struggle he says but we have our trust in Christ, who suffered for us all. Sometimes we get feeling that we are going through life all alone. Paul reminds us that we are never alone.
I’ve seen the lightning flashing, and heard the thunder roll,
I’ve felt sin’s breakers dashing, trying to conquer my soul;
I’ve heard the voice of my Savior, telling me still to fight on,
He promised never to leave me, never to leave me alone.
No, never alone, no, never alone; He promised never to leave me,
Never to leave me alone. Author Unknown
Lord, we need to get up each day aware that you are present to us and that you never leave us alone. The disciples were afraid when Jesus was getting ready to leave and he told them he was going to send another, the Holy Spirit. We thank you for the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives and that we are never alone. Amen.
